I love making layered cakes, I have all sorts of recipes like this one but that include all different kinds of fruits, and cakes etc. This is the first time I’ve baked a devil’s food cake and included strawberries with it. It turned out to be a delicious combo (How could it not be?). I used cream cheese frosting to add some creaminess in with the rich chocolate. Mmmm. SO good.
Here’s how it was done:
What you need:
Devil’s food cake mix
Fresh strawberries
Whipped cream
Cream cheese frosting or cool whip
Glass cake dish {I purchased mine from Home goods}
The steps:
First make your devil’s food cake with the necessary ingredients listed on the package. Fill two 8″ rounds with equal amounts of batter. Bake for the said time on the mix. Slice your strawberries into thin pieces. Once your cakes are done baking let them cool for about 20 minutes. Take a knife and cut about an inch or more of the cakes border off {this allows both of the cakes to fit nicely in your glass dish}. Place your first cake in the bottom of your glass dish. On top of your first cake, put a thick layer of cream cheese frosting {or cool whip if you would rather}. Place your first layer of strawberries on top. Position the second cake on top of that layer and repeat with frosting, strawberries & whipped cream!
Delicious! I don’t think we have strawberries around the house right now, but I think I need to run off and find some fruit! I’ve never actually made a devil’s food cake, either. Hmm… summer plans? I think yes.
